SF Celebrates, LA Riots (with videos)
By frontoffice • Sep 7th, 2009 • Category: Main StorySan Francisco, CA–The City of San Francisco showed its pride in the Golden State Storm’s victory in Fantasy Bowl 7 by throwing an extravagant victory parade. The event, dubbed “San Francisco Pride 2009: To Form A More Perfect Union,” took place in late June 2009 and celebrated not only the team’s victory, but the ousting of President George W. Bush’s administration from the White House.
Said Mayor Gavin Newsome, “The city, and the entire Bay Area really, is thrilled about how Condi Rice’s team performed last season as well as Dick Cheney’s exit from Washington. We felt that this parade would combine the two themes.”
When asked about Storm head coach Condoleezza Rice’s association with the very administration he condemned, Newsome paused for a while and stared at the ground before saying, “Oh, snap.”
Los Angeles was not as ecstatic about the Storm victory, however. Residents of the city, which was home to the Storm for five years before they moved to San Francisco for the 2008 season, rioted immediately after the championship game in late December 2008, causing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of damage and scores of injuries. Then-President Bush had to send forces to Southern California to quell the uprising.
“This isn’t fair! THIS ISN’T FAIR!” screamed one fan as he threw bricks at a retirement home.
But back in San Francisco, the party continued. (Video of European tourists tripping balls at the event) The Storm even unveiled a new mascot, no doubt inspired by Fantasy Bowl 7 MVP Visanthe Shiancoe:
