Holmgren, Wolf to return to Houston in 2010
By mustangs • Jan 5th, 2010 • Category: Press Releases(January 4, 2010) Houston, TX-With the season wrapped up, Mustangs owner Anthony Calabria addressed rumors regarding the coaching staff in his year-end press conference. “First of all, I would like to announce that our GM Ron Wolf, and coach Mike Holmgren, will both return to the team in 2010. Our whole organization is disappointed with the way the season has gone, but I believe we can fix it, and we will fix it. One bad season does not change all the success we have had in seasons past. It will be a challenge with all the talent in our division, but we are up to the task.”
The Mustangs’ downfall started with three straight division losses at the end of 2008 when they seemingly had a playoff spot locked up, and continued into 2009 with a 1-5 start. Then the running game began to show signs of life, led by rookie Chris Wells and starter Ryan Grant, and Houston ended the regular season on a high note, edging out St. Louis to deny them a playoff berth. Still, they finished last in the division, and with Tampa Bay and New Orleans streaking down the stretch, Houston will not be expected to contend for the playoffs unless they add some significant pieces. Will Wolf and Holmgren find the right mix once again?
